Cookie policy.

Which cookies and browser storage the TechEsthete website uses, why, and how to control them. No advertising cookies or trackers.

Last updated: 20 October 2026

This policy explains which cookies and similar browser storage the TechEsthete website uses, and how you can control them. The short version: we don't use advertising cookies or advertising trackers, and our website sets no cookies of its own. We measure how the site is used with Mixpanel analytics, which keeps a random ID in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie; visitors in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked first, and anyone can press Decline. We also store your privacy choice and your light or dark mode setting. We load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to serve them but sets no cookies.

What cookies and local storage are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Your browser sends them back to the website on later visits. Sites use them to keep you signed in, remember settings, keep things secure or, on many sites, track what you do.

Local storage is another way for a website to save small pieces of information in your browser. Unlike cookies, what's saved in local storage isn't sent to the website automatically with each visit. It stays on your device unless the site's code reads it.

Both can be "strictly necessary", meaning the site needs them to work or to stay secure, or optional, such as analytics and advertising. Many laws, including in the UK and EU, require a website to ask your consent before using optional cookies. Strictly necessary cookies and storage don't need consent.

What we use today

Cookies set by us

None. Our website doesn't set any cookies for analytics, advertising, tracking or profiling. Mixpanel, our analytics service, is set up to use local storage instead of cookies (see below).

Cookies set by our hosting provider

Our website is delivered through a hosting and content delivery network (CDN) provider. To protect the site from abuse, such as bots and denial-of-service attacks, this provider may set strictly necessary security cookies. They're used only to keep the site secure and available, not to track you across websites or for advertising.

Local storage

We use these local storage items:

  • Name: te-consent
  • What it does: remembers whether you pressed Accept or Decline in our privacy notice, so we don't ask again and so a Decline is respected on every page
  • Type: strictly necessary (it records your choice)
  • How long it lasts: until you clear your browser's site data
  • Who can see it: only your browser
  • Name: mp_1e2d8994dfeae3994a30530bb26afc59_mixpanel (and short-lived items starting with __mpq_ that hold events waiting to be sent)
  • What it does: Mixpanel analytics: a random ID for your browser and the source of your visit (referring website and campaign tags), so visits from the same browser can be counted together
  • Type: optional (analytics). Set only once analytics is running: after you press Accept in the EU, the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, or wherever our site can't tell your country; on arrival elsewhere. Pressing Decline deletes it.
  • How long it lasts: until you press Decline or clear your browser's site data
  • Who can see it: our pages read it and send the ID with analytics events to Mixpanel through our own address (www.techesthete.com/bx/)
  • Name: __mp_opt_in_out_1e2d8994dfeae3994a30530bb26afc59
  • What it does: Mixpanel's own record that you declined (or accepted), so its code stays silent after a Decline. It holds no ID.
  • Type: strictly necessary (it records your choice)
  • How long it lasts: until you clear your browser's site data
  • Name: te-theme
  • What it does: remembers whether you chose light or dark mode, so the site looks the way you like on your next visit
  • Type: strictly necessary (functional)
  • How long it lasts: until you clear your browser's site data
  • Who can see it: only your browser. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.

We also keep one item in session storage, which your browser deletes when you close the tab: te-country, the two-letter country code our hosting provider (Cloudflare) reports for your connection, used only to decide whether analytics must wait for your Accept. It isn't sent anywhere.

Analytics (Mixpanel)

We use Mixpanel, run by Mixpanel, Inc., to see how our website is used: pages viewed, how visitors arrived, clicks, scrolling, how far articles are read, FAQ questions opened, calculator use and whether forms are started and sent. Visits we measure are also recorded as an masked session replay, in which our forms and the privacy notice are blank and anything typed is masked. Mixpanel never receives what you type into our forms. It uses your IP address to work out your approximate location and doesn't keep the address. Data is stored in Mixpanel's US data region and kept under Mixpanel's standard retention (session replays for 30 days by default).

  • EU, EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), UK and Switzerland, or if we can't tell where you are: nothing is measured until you press Accept in the privacy notice.
  • Everywhere else: analytics starts when you open the site, and the notice lets you press Decline.
  • Decline stops analytics at once, stops any replay recording, deletes Mixpanel's ID from your browser, and keeps analytics off on later visits.
  • Change your mind at any time with the "Privacy choices" link at the bottom of every page.

When you send one of our forms, our server separately records that an enquiry was received (its reference, form type, chosen ad platforms, spend band and the page it came from), without your name, email, phone, company, message or IP address. Our Privacy Policy explains this in full.

Fonts from Google

We load fonts from Google Fonts; Google receives your IP address and browser details to serve them. Google Fonts does not set cookies. Google's Privacy Policy explains how Google handles that information, and our Privacy Policy covers it too.

Third-party embeds

Apart from the fonts above, we don't currently embed third-party content, such as videos, social media widgets or maps. None of our pages embed content that sets its own cookies. If we add any in future, we'll update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires.

Our Amazon Ads application

This policy covers the website at https://www.techesthete.com. Our separate Amazon Ads application, which uses Login with Amazon, may use cookies or similar technologies that are needed to keep you signed in and keep your session secure. Our Privacy Policy explains how that application handles your information.

How to control cookies and local storage

You're in control. Most browsers let you:

  • See which cookies and site data are stored, and delete them
  • Block cookies from all sites or from particular sites
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Clear all cookies and site data when you close the browser

You'll usually find these options under "Privacy" or "Settings" in your browser. Clearing site data for techesthete.com removes the items above: the site goes back to following your device's light or dark mode, Mixpanel's ID is gone, and the privacy notice asks for your choice again.

If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site may not work, or our hosting provider's security checks may ask you to confirm you're not a bot.

If we add anything else

If we add other optional cookies, storage or trackers later, we'll update this policy before we do. Where the law requires, we'll ask for your consent first, and you'll be able to change your choice at any time.

Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top.
